Drivers
License:
top
Newcomers to
Tennessee have 30 days from the time they establish
permanent residency to obtain a Tennessee driver’s
license. If you have a valid license from another state,
bring that license as well as one other form of
identification. With a valid out-of-state license, only a
vision test is required. For persons without a valid
license, vision, written and driver tests are required.
Applicants under age 18 must bring their school attendance
form and a parent must sign a financial responsibility form.
Depending on the number of years it is issued for, a regular
driver’s license will cost from $12.50 to $26.50.
All licenses are
obtained through the Tennessee Department of Safety Driver
Testing Center, four of which are located in the Memphis
area. The offices are open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m.;
no road testing after 4 p.m.
